Lighting and Grip Unit

The Foundation acquired additional equipment for the Lighting and Grip Unit, and established processes for transporting, storing, and maintaining equipment. The equipment has been used for producing documentary films, short fiction films, commercials, and other visual works. The equipment was given to other PSP recipients as part of their production grant packages.

Building Qualifications

As part of the Foundation’s efforts to build qualifications across the audio and visual sectors, two sessions were arranged in Ramallah for Foundation Director Elia Suleiman to meet with a group of emerging filmmakers, students, visual artists, and others interested in cinematic expression. A training course in lighting and grip was supervised by French trainer Blaise Basdevant at the Foundation premises in Ramallah, and a workshop was also organised at the Foundation for Department of Television Studies students at Dar Al-Kalima Faculty.

Ramallah Doc Pitching 2013

This year, the A. M. Qattan Foundation started a partnership with the French Consulate General (Jerusalem), the Goethe Institute (Ramallah), and ARTE TV  in support of the fifth annualRamallah Doc Pitching event. Held in Ramallah, Doc Pitching is an opportunity to give independent Palestinian filmmakers the opportunity to propose their projects to a panel of commissioning editors, producers, and representatives from international TV companies. Thirteen filmmakers participated in training courses prior to the final pitching session. During the period covered by this report, a workshop about how to prepare and develop film trailers was led by the French-Tunisian director Karim al-Direidi.
