Partnership for Development
For the third successive year, the Partnership for Development Project, co-funded by the Drosos Foundation, has been renovating the building of the Al-Maghazi Community Rehabilitation Society (MCRS), as well as enhancing its library services.
The library’s membership now exceeds 2,400. The library offers book lending and internal reading services, along with diverse cultural and recreational activities. During this period, the library was supplied with 1,170 new materials, raising the total number of materials to 1,290.
For a Happy Childhood Concludes
With co-funding from the Welfare Association, the project For a Happy Childhood was carried out between 1 October 2010 and the end of September 2012. The project focused on training educators and principals at six kindergartens throughout provinces in Gaza, while adopting an integrative and holistic approach to early childhood education. Two books were published and distributed: A Guide for Working with Parents, and The Programme’s Tales: Success Stories. The Centre held a ceremony in celebration of the project achieving its objectives.
Child-Friendly Area (Samouni Project) Concludes
In collaboration with Friends of Waldorf Education, the Centre carried out this project between August 2010 and February 2013 to provide support to 1,800 children and their parents who were affected by the Israeli war in the Samouni area. The project continued until the beginning of April 2013, with support from the A.M. Qattan Foundation.
Library at the Qattan Centre for the Child
The Centre’s library continues to offer lending, internal reading and research services. The library carried out various activities throughout the year such as storytelling and research competitions. It also introduced activities such as My Language is My Strength, Beautiful Calligraphy, House of Stories and My First Skill. The library was supplied with more than 2,700 new materials.
The Centre continues to carry out programmes such as We All Read, which seeks to develop children’s reading and writing skills. It has invested in teaching support materials and introduced fun, interactive reading and recreational activities. The Little Librarian’s programme continues to work with children on professional work inside the library and consolidating their affiliation to the library. The Tales Clubhouse offers story-based singing and plays, and the Little Pencils programme continues to support children’s writing talents. More than 180 club meetings were held, and the number of participants has reached 1,084.
Librarians developed their skills through the Librarians’ Club, which held cultural symposiums and meetings in collaboration with the Tamer Institute for Community Education and the Ministry of Education.
